Ten minutes is a good length for a reading block, a stretch, a quiet class activity or a break away from the desk. This version adds a gentle sound under the countdown.
Using it
The page loads set to 10:00 with Soft rain chosen. Press Start and the background sound begins; it fades out when time is up and the alarm plays. Change the background in More options to Calm tones, Brown noise or Off, and adjust the ambient volume with the slider.
About the sound
Everything you hear is created on the fly by your browser using the Web Audio API. That keeps the page small and avoids copyright and licensing concerns, but it also means that it is not recorded music. If you want songs, play them in another app, and use this page only for the countdown. The built-in sounds are meant to be neutral rather than a replacement for a playlist.
Practical tips
- For a group, use Full screen and the Disk display so everyone can see how long is left.
- Press Test sound first, because that confirms the alarm will be audible over the background sound.
- Add a label such as "Reading" so the room knows what the ten minutes are for.
- Tick Repeat the alarm if you will be away from the screen.
